ASU (Accident Sickness and Unemployment Insurance)

Accident sickness and unemployment insurance (ASU) is an optional insurance usually purchased to ensure that your mortgage is paid while you are off work as a consequence of an accident, sickness or unemployment. This is also why it is commonly known as Mortgage Payment Protection Insurance (MPPI). The downside, like all insurances, is that you have to purchase it in advance. But on the flip side, given the choice of paying a relatively small payment per year or the chance of losing your home as a consequence of an accident, sickness or unemployment, which would you choose?

If you are employed you may have a scheme at your place of employment covering you in case of an accident or sickness, but it is highly unlikey you will be covered against redundancy.
